The Mandate and Necessity of Holiness

Hebrews 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

2 Corinthians 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Holiness has to do with our relationship and respect for God.

The Gift That God gives us as Christians is called the Holy Ghost!

1. When we are born again, the process of Holiness has begun and it starts when we receive into our being the renewed breath and quickening Spirit of God whose nature is Holy.

Acts 2:38 KJV
(38) Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

2. The Spirit of God will help us discern and determine what is right.

Hebrews 5:14 KJV
(14) …..even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

3. As We mature in Christ we grow in our relationship with him and with that comes understanding.

2 Peter 1:4-8 KJV
(4) Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
(5) And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
(6) And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
(7) And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
(8) For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

4. Holiness is not something that we do on our own, but we do with the empowerment of his Spirit. The Holy Spirit is able to help us as human flesh to live sanctified lives. He will help us, but we must do our part.

2 Corinthians 7:1 KJV
(1) Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

THE BLESSING OF HOLINESS

Deuteronomy 28:1-14 KJV
(1) And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
(2) And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.
(3) Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.
(4) Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.

(8) The LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
(9) The LORD shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways.
(10) And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of thee.
(11) And the LORD shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
(12) The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.
(13) And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:
(14) And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

Exodus 28:36 KJV
(36) And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD.

The Old Testament Priest wore a Hat with a Golden Plate, every where they went, on their head was a statement to all who saw them, they were separated to the ministry of God. How much more should that be true for us as New Testament Christians that holiness is not just a wardrobe we wear, but a spirit we have.
