Holiness - The Definition of Holiness

The Definition of Holiness

Holiness is our Mandate

But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
1 Peter 1:15-16

Hebrew Word qâdôsh - kaw-doshe', 1) sacred, holy, Holy One, saint, set apart Part of Speech: adjective
Greek Word hagios hag'-ee-os 1) most holy thing, a saint Part of Speech: adjective

This Greek Word is used 231 times in the New Testament

The Mandate and Necessity of Holiness

Hebrews 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

2 Corinthians 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Holiness has to do with our relationship and respect for God.

The Gift That God gives us as Christians is called the Holy Ghost!

1. When we are born again, the process of Holiness has begun and it starts when we receive into our being the renewed breath and quickening Spirit of God whose nature is Holy.

Acts 2:38 KJV
(38) Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

2. The Spirit of God will help us discern and determine what is right.

Hebrews 5:14 KJV
(14) …..even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

3. As We mature in Christ we grow in our relationship with him and with that comes understanding.

2 Peter 1:4-8 KJV
(4) Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
(5) And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
(6) And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
(7) And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
(8) For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

4. Holiness is not something that we do on our own, but we do with the empowerment of his Spirit. The Holy Spirit is able to help us as human flesh to live sanctified lives. He will help us, but we must do our part.

2 Corinthians 7:1 KJV
(1) Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

For Your personal Study and reflection this week.

THE BLESSING OF HOLINESS

Deuteronomy 28:1-14 KJV
(1) And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
(2) And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.
(3) Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.
(4) Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.
(5) Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store.
(6) Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.
(7) The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.
(8) The LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
(9) The LORD shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways.
(10) And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of thee.
(11) And the LORD shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
(12) The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.
(13) And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:
(14) And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

Psalms 15:1-5 KJV
(1)
LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?
(2) He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart.
(3) He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.
(4) In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.
(5) He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved.

Psalms 24:3-6 KJV
(3) Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?
(4) He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.
(5) He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
(6) This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.

Exodus 28:36 KJV
(36) And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD.

The Old Testament Priest wore a Hat with a Golden Plate, every where they went, on their head was a statement to all who saw them, they were separated to the ministry of God. How much more should that be true for us as New Testament Christians that holiness is not just a wardrobe we wear, but a spirit we have.

Oneness

Singularity - Oneness

Deuteronomy 6:4-5 KJV
(4) Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
(5) And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

The Cornerstone of the Jewish Faith rested upon this premise and principle. One God served by the whole person.

Singularity.

There is but One God.

Not Two. Not Three. Not Nine. Not millions. One God.

Throughout the dealing of God with Man we always hear one voice that demonstrates the Nature of God.

From the Garden speaking to moses we see this idea of Singularity, or Oneness.

There is But One God… and God desired that Man would serve him with the all of himself.

“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

There is a powerful understanding when we understand that All that is made was made by God. Not some nameless unknowable God…. But a God who expresses himself in not only in the world around us, or the conscience inside of us, but we have his word given to us.

Let me make it simple for you today.

There is but one God and that God that created everything is Manifested and Demonstrated in the Man Christ Jesus.

All that God ever was or ever will be was personified in the Person of Jesus Christ.

“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

His disciples struggled with the Nature of God and did not always understand… Philip asked Jesus,

John 14:8-11 KJV
(8) Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
(9) Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
(10) Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
(11) Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.

It is important to understand the Nature of God….

God is a Spirit.

God is not aMan.

God is not a Tree.

God is not a Mountain.

God is not the Sun.

God is not the Moon.

But God is a Spirit.

And a Spirit hath not flesh and blood. A Spirit.

When The prophets saw God in their heavenly Visions, they saw One…. With many traits and many attributes… but they Saw God.

Revelation 4:2-6 KJV
(2) And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.
(3) And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.
(4) And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.
(5) And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.
(6) And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.

Jesus said of himself to John in the Book of Revelation,

Revelation 1:8 KJV
(8) I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

Many struggle with inferred meanings, but when the Word of God speaks for God and God speaks for himself he points us to the power of One.

1 Timothy 3:16
(16) And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Jesus is not in the Godhead…. But the Godhead is in Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5:19 KJV
(19) To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

Everything that God is, was or ever will be was manifested in the Person of Jesus Christ.

Colossians 2:8-12 KJV
(8) Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
(9) For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
(10) And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
(11) In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
(12) Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

Singularity.

The Foundational Premise of Biblical Christianity is this idea of Singularity.

All that God is was in Jesus Christ. All that we are we should serve him.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 KJV
(23) And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This is not a Doctrinal Anomaly, but it is the Thread of truth sewed throughout its pages.

You don’t need to read a theology book to perceive its truth.

Jesus Christ is God.

Deuteronomy 6:4-5 KJV
(4) Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
(5) And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

Jesus Christ is the Lord. The Lord Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 4:5 KJV
(5) One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

The Foundational Conclusion of Peters Message to the Jews at the Birth of the Church was this.

This Conclusion caused them to cry out.

Acts 2:36 KJV
(36) Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

Jesus is both Lord and Christ.

Colossians 1:19 KJV
(19) For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

Jesus was the Begotten Son of God.

Hebrews 1:1-3 KJV
(1) God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
(2) Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
(3) Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

You want to see this.

Go look @ Philipians 2:6.

Philippians 2:6 KJV
(6) Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

The Greek word FORM is the word

morphē
Thayer Definition:
1) the form by which a person or thing strikes the vision
2) external appearance

Perhaps from the base of G3313 (through the idea of adjustment of parts); shape; figuratively nature: - form.

Jesus is the Prophetic Fulfillment of all the Messianic Scriptures.

Isaiah 9:6 KJV
(6) For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

And When those scriptures were fulfilled… we see something interesting.

John in the first chapter said it this way.

John 1:18 KJV
(18) No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

The Gospel is the Saving Message of God that we hear and see through Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 4:3-6 KJV
(3) But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
(4) In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
(5) For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.
(6) For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

When you See Jesus….

You See the Form of God.
You see the Image of God.
You see the Person of God.
Jesus Christ is Lord.

The Glory of God is seen in the Face of Jesus Christ.

Jesus was Fully Man.

Jesus was Fully God.

Those who believe that Jesus was just a spirit.

1 John 4:2-3 KJV
(2) Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
(3) And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

Deuteronomy 6:4-5 KJV
(4) Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
(5) And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
Three Deminsions of God…. But One God.

very works' sake.

Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

Listen to the Words of Jesus.

(11) Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me:

Colossians 1:12-19 KJV
(12) Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
(13) Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
(14) In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
(15) Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
(16) For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
(17) And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
(18) And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
(19) For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

All that God ever was… was in Jesus Christ.

If I were to walk to the Ocean and place a Cup into the ocean and Hold up the Cup and ask…

Is the Ocean in this Cup?

The answer would be yes.

But all the ocean is not in the cup….

But all the ocean is… is in the Cup.

Jesus Christ was a Revelation of All that God was to Lost Humanity.

Everything you need to know about God… you can learn and understand and perceive by Jesus Christ.

The Only way to the Father is through Jesus Christ.

The Only way to See the Father is in the Person of Jesus Christ.

Jesus was a revelation of God.

Body, Soul, Spirit

Name, Nature, Number.

The Tabernacle.

The Revelation of Three…

Everything was Three…

But all of it together was a revelation of Jesus Christ.

What is the Apostles Doctrine?

It is What they Preached, How they Obeyed Christs Commission, The sacraments they kept and the principles they taught to the New Testament Church.
The baseline of this is found in the

Book of Acts…

Which is the Acts, Words, Ministry of the Apostles.

If we want to see the Ministry of Christ Fulfilled in his intention… look at the First Generation of Believers.

We gain understanding in what they DID. We then gain “the theology of what they did, by reading the Epistles. To read the Epistles, without first looking and studying the book of Acts is wrong. Because you don’t get a full understanding… by looking at it in the wrong way.

What happened First?

The Event Happened… and over time… they began to give explanation and reasoning behind what they did.

Romans is a Great Book. But it was WRITTEN to people who had already been saved. But some look at the Book as a Roadmap for the Lost… When in reality, it is a road map to the Believer.

Why have you never heard this?

Because the Blind lead the blind.

Tradition and Theories and Doctrines of Men have robbed the Bible of it’s power and effect in ones life. WE must come to an understanding, that the Scripture should be the foundation of everything we do. WE must not listen to anyone or anything… if we find that what they are teaching as Doctrine is not based in Scripture.

Remember the different Kinds of Doctorines.

• The Doctrine of the Pharisees
• The Doctrine of Balaam
• Doctrines of Man
• Doctrines of Devils
• Doctrines the commandments of men
• Strange Doctrines
• The Doctrine of the Nicolatians
• The Doctrine of Jezebel.

These are all Invalid, wrong and False Doctrine. They will lead you to a wrong conclusion. They will take you away from Truth.

The Truth is Biblical and the Doctrine must be of what the Disciples Taught.

Jesus entrusted His Body, Bride and Building into the hands of the Apostles.

What did they do?

What did they preach?
What was there method?
How did they lead a person to salvation?
What were the sacraments and how were they Administered?

The answers to these questions…

Is why there are so many different kinds of Churches and Denominations.

Because someone is inserting their opinion above scripture…

Calvin gave us Calvinism
Luther gave us Lutherism
Joseph Smith gave us Mormonism
Charles Taze Russell gave us the Jehovah Witness’ religion
Mary Baker Eddie gave us the Christian Scientist
Catholic Doctorine springs from the Catholic Church.
Baptist, Methodist, Episcopolians, Pentecostals

Everyone of these have some Way of viewing the Scripture.

But the bottom line… Truth is Not Relative. It is either TRUE… or it is False.

It is either right, or it is wrong.

And the Answer to that Question in reference to Doctrine… Who you trust will determine your denomination and your designation. Do you trust scripture… and yet you are a Mormon?

Well, really you trust The Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith… when truth is in conflict with tradition.

That would be TRUE of EVERY DENOMINATION.

So…

What is the Apostles Doctrine?

I can tell you… but some of you need to wipe the dust off the old book and read it for yourself….

And pray…

LORD… I want to know truth?

Lord … I want to know what your word says.

Lord I don’t care what Phillips on the Radio says.

I don’t care what the Pope in Rome says.

I don’t care what Luther, Calvin or Russel says….

Lord I want to know what your word says…..

You have just embarked on a journey that wil bring your life and faith into Unity with Scripture.
It is not for Private interpretation.

2 Peter 1:20-21 KJV
(20) Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
(21) For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

That simply means… the scripture Means what it means and says what it says.

It is our challenge to know and understand the meaning.

Below is the scriptures and notes I used on the Radio Saturday 2-10-07

2 Timothy 4:2-4 KJV
(2) Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
(3) For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
(4) And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Acts 2:37-42 KJV
(37) Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
(38) Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
(39) For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
(40) And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
(41) Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
(42) And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

They continued steadfastly in the Apostles Doctrine.

What does that mean, Apostles Doctrine?

First… What is Doctrine? Doctrine?

We can come to some conclusion to see how the word is used in scripture.
We can come to some conclusion based on what importance it is given.
We can come to some conclusion to see what kinds of “doctrines” are classified in scripture.

So let’s see,

In the New Testament the word is used 44 times.

Listen to the Biblical Terms for the other kinds of Doctrines.
· The Doctrine of the Pharisees
· The Doctrine of Balaam
· Doctrines of Man
· Doctrines of Devils
· Doctrines the commandments of men
· Strange Doctrines
· The Doctrine of the Nicolatians
· The Doctrine of Jezebel.

The first time it is used in Matthew 7 at the conclusion of what many refer to the Sermon on the Mount.

Doctrine.

They were astonished at his doctrine.

The word astonished means to be struck; amazed, blown away is how we would describe.

The Doctrine of Christ

What does the Word Doctrine mean?
What is doctrine?

Mat 7:28
(28) And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:

That which is taught. A Lesson Plan

If you want someone to learn math, you have a lesson plan of basics so that they come to the right understanding of the principles of mathematics.
Doctrine… It is teaching, a lesson plan so that people believe and understand that which is true concerning scripture and Christ.

Doctrine is very important. What kind of doctrines does the Bible Say there are?
Christ Doctrine

Apostles Doctrine
Apostles Doctrine
Many Kinds of Doctrines… but there is only ONE valid Lesson Plan.

One Valid lesson plan… because a bad lesson plan will teach a lot of stuff and people will come to the wrong conclusion.

Listen to the Biblical Terms for the other kinds of Doctrines.
· The Doctrine of the Pharisees
· The Doctrine of Balaam
· Doctrines of Man
· Doctrines of Devils
· Doctrines the commandments of men
· Strange Doctrines
· The Doctrine of the Nicolatians
· The Doctrine of Jezebel.
· What is the Apostles Doctrine?

We know that Doctrine is a systematic way of teaching that causes people to come to a right conclusion.

Some believe that some idea of Jesus and a faith in that idea is sufficient.
I challenge that mindset.

Matthew 7:13-29 KJV
(13) Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
(14) Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
(15) Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
(16) Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
(17) Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
(18) A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
(19) Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
(20) Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
(21) Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
(22) Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
(23) And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
(24) Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
(25) And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
(26) And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
(27) And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
(28) And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:
(29) For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

Just any old way will not do.

Just having some passive intellectual knowledge of Jesus does not save you.

John 7:37-39 KJV
(37) In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
(38) He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
(39) (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
Act 5:28
(28) Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.

It was a part of the three legged stool that was resisted so steadfastly by the world.

Paul writing to the Romans,

Rom 6:16-17
(16) Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
(17) But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

Obeyed from the heart the form of Doctrine that was delivered.

What was the Doctorine?

It was the Apostles Doctrine.

Some of you don’t understand what I mean when I say Apostles Doctrine. Raised in the Church, a Bible Scholar even… yet you are dumbfounded at such a thought…
That there is a distinctive doctrine of the Apostles…. That brought miracles.
But notice what Paul says this…

Rom 16:17
(17) Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.

There are divisions and offenses that are CONTRARY to the Doctrine of Christ.

The Scripture Speaks of “winds of Doctrines…”

Paul told them… teach no OTHER Doctorine.

He spoke of things and people who were “Contrary to Sound Doctrine.”

1Ti 4:6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

1Ti 4:13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

1Ti 4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

1Ti 5:17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

1Ti 6:3
(3) If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;

2Ti 3:16-17
(16) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
(17) That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

2Ti 4:2-5
(2) Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
(3) For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
(4) And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
